Dossett family in Pike Co. IN   Posted by Leanne Cook <lcook@mailbox.lpl.org> on Mon, 28 Dec 1998

Looking for information on ancestors/descendants/relatives of David Dossett, Moses and Mecie Dossett. Not sure of dates, but they lived in the Glezen area. My father Carl Royce Dossett was born in 1913, so dates should go back in 1800’s as these are my grandparents and great-grandparent.  Any information would be appreciated.

Surnames: Willis  My gr’grandmother, Lou Alla Willis was the dau. of John Willis, who was the son of Vincent Willis, who is supposedly the son of Thomas Willis. Thomas supposedly had 4 sons – John, Maxwell, Vincent, and Thomas, who came from Rowan Co., NC, to Pike Co., IN. I have proof of ancestry to Vincent – only have a “cousin’s” word on father Thomas & 3 brothers – he never sent copy of documentation. Do you have proof of family history? I do know these Willis’s settled in Pike Co., but can’t prove relationship. Vincent, his children & grandchildren are buried in a Willis Cem. in Jefferson Twp., Pike Co., near Cato. (There is another Willis Cem. in the county.)

Surnames: Hazelton, Jerrell, Helderman, Loveless, Willis, Palmer, Dean, Quiggins, Beck  Venita:  George “Duck” Willis and his first wife Polly Patterson, married in Rowan CO., NC on a bond dated 26 Oct 1803, were the parents of Hannah, Vincent, George, and Phillip Willis. The evidence for this is largely circumstantial, involving census records in Rowan Co. and Davidson Co., North Carolina and the census and land records of Pike Co., Indiana. “Duck” Willis’ father appears to have been George Willis who died in Rowan Co., NC in 1834. If for some reason, he was not George’s son, then “Duck” must have been the son of George’s brother, Thomas, since they were the only two sons of Thomas Willis, Sr. to have stayed in North Carolina.   Best Wishes, James

Surnames: I am trying to locate family members from the marriages of Rachel RUSSELL and James MCBRIDE. Both were born about 1813 and were married about 1832. Family history states that this was the last family to hold the RUSSELL family bible. Can anyone put me into contact with any descendants of this family. Even if I cannot find the family bible perhaps I can obtain more information on this family.

This was for Posey County so there must be a will there that might list the information that you are seeking .. Hope this helps .. Would love to see what else you have on the ALMON line …

Surnames:   Got you message. I have a copy of the probate records from Nathen Almon, leaving his estate belonging to Julia Ann Almon. The estates value was listed as under $300. The record was quite simple, didn’t have any mention of his children’s name. Did have the exact date of death. Any suggestion or sources to search?  Are you in the Indiana area? I have alot of records from Thos Almon’s line. Lets match and compare. Do you have electronic files of your work? I have family tree maker or can export GED files for import.  What is your linage? How are you related to the ALMON’s?
